Preparing Your Home for a Kitchen Installation
Once you’ve decided on a kitchen remodel, you’ll need to be prepared for what can be a noisy, dusty and disruptive process. But with some clever planning and forethought, you can minimise the impact on your home – here’s how…
Be Prepared!
First, clear your kitchen and pack everything away in properly labelled boxes, except for essential items that you’ll use to set up a makeshift kitchen elsewhere in the house. Cooking some meals that you can freeze and then microwave is a great idea, but make sure you’ll still have access to your freezer.
Take down any pictures, clocks and mirrors in the kitchen and any adjacent rooms to ensure they don’t get damaged during the installation, and consider sending your pets to stay with friends or to a kennel – like children, you need to keep them away from the installation site.
The Installation Process
Try not to access your kitchen as the installation progresses, as this will help to minimise invasive dust throughout the house. Make sure you keep topping up your supplies of disposable plates, cutlery and cups so you don’t have to spend too much time washing up in the bath. Finally, make sure you’re on hand as much as possible so that any issues that do arise can be dealt with quickly to avoid disrupting the schedule. Make sure your contact details are up to date and your phone is topped up.
